Great post/article. I needed to be reminded to pray for our single parent Soldiers and their children. Praying God will use your article to speak to people about our need to lift them up in prayer, encourage them and to be available.

Chaplain Olson,

I just discovered your blog. You have some interesting insight. I appreciate your service and the way you share it through this website.

Currently, I am a pastor of a church. I have been in the ministry for many years. My wife and I are currently praying about joining the Army as a Chaplain. I have been torn between Reserves and Active Duty.

I noticed on this post that you have six children. Likewise, I have many children. Is it extremely difficult being away from the kids and wife for extended periods of time?

My greatest concern about Active Duty is how my wife will be able to manage. She does a wonderful job now, but during times of extended absence, I'm worried that task would be too demanding. How is your wife able to handle it?

My wife is always very supportive of the and is open to the Active Duty. I think that if she could become a little more confident about the opportunities and support within the Army families, we will move forward in pursuing Active Duty.

I would love any words of wisdom that you have to share. Stop by my blog if you get a chance.

Thanks again for what you do.

Mark,

I received your blog address from Alan McManus. He has kept me up to date with you all from time to time. We, my wife Becky, Joshua (8), Jacob (6) and Rachel (2), are living in Xenia, Ohio outside of Dayton. I am teaching P.E. at a public school and we are home schooling our children (that keeps us busy). I am also a house church leader. The house church is under the umbrella of a larger "mother church." We have quite a few Cedarville University students who attend our house church as we are just 15 minutes from the school. Of course, I am sure that you know that Dr. Brown is the president there. It is interesting to turn on the radio and here him speaking in chapel. Brings back great memories of Bryan. Hey, do you remember when we were roofing together and I fell of the top of ladder?

I want to express my gratitude for what you are doing on behalf of our country. I was telling my principal at school just this week that one regret that I have is not having spent time serving in the military. My father is a Korean vet and I am extremely proud and grateful for what he did. Also, I have uncles who served in WW II. I am thankful for all our veterans and current soldiers. Again, thank you.

God bless you and your family!

Sobering and an excellent meditation. I shared this with a few hundred people today (seriously)...I hope you don't mind. Among them are many with sons in the military and probably some with daughters, husbands, wives and friends in the military and even a few soldiers themselves, plus a number of veterans. I know they appreciated your words because they told me so.

Well said soldier and brother.
